Basic City Open Mic Comedy Night

This unique painting experience is in keeping with the 2024 ASALH theme,”African Americans and the Arts”Light refreshments including age-appropriate, non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Manchester Alliance meeting

The Manchester Alliance is a neighborhood association encompassing residents, businesses and property owners that share common ideals and goals for the land and improvements defined by its physical boundaries.

All are welcome to attend our monthly Manchester Alliance meetings, held at 6:00pm – 7:00pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month at local Manchester establishments.

Members will be notified of the latest meeting location on our Facebook group, Instagram page and by email.

Woodland Heights Civic Association Meeting

We’re bringing back a neighborhood favorite – our member social pre-meeting! Woodland Heights Civic Association members can join us at 6 p.m. for a slice or two of ‘za from Zombie Pizza. First come, first serve. We’ll supply the pizza, you bring your own non-alcoholic beverage.

At 6:30 p.m., our neighborhood meeting will feature brief updates from the Civic Association, Richmond 5th District Councilwoman Stephanie Lynch, and the Richmond Police Department. We’ll also hear updates from the Metro Richmond Flying Squad, Friends of Fonticello Park, James River Outdoor Coalition, and more!

Poetry Workshop Series with Jamil Jasey

This Poetry Workshop for teens, tweens, and their families is an ideal way for family bonding, getting creative juices flowing, and polishing communication skills! This is an ongoing 6-session series, with opportunities to share talents honed during the Workshop. Adults must bring a pre-teen or teen to attend the Workshop. Teens and Pre-teens are invited to bring friends and siblings, but must bring at least one parent, guardian, or adult mentor with them to attend the Workshop.

Jamil Jasey is a local Spoken Word Artist. He was instrumental in making the first Black Male Emergent Readers (BMER) Summer Book Club a tremendous success, using poetry to inspire teen boys to read!

We’ll be cleaning up Hull Street & the area in Shockoe Bottom where the Slave Trail ended. The Slave Trail chronicles the history of the trade of enslaved Africans from Africa to Virginia until 1775, and away from Virginia, especially Richmond, to other locations in the Americas until 1865.
