Harris-Muhammed, Dixon win uncontested races for School Board
Running unopposed, 6th District School Board representative Dr. Shonda Matia Harris-Muhammed will keep the seat for what will be her 2nd full term. Harris-Muhammed was first elected to the position in 2012 running unopposed. She lost the seat in 2016, with 31% of the vote in a 2-way race. Harris-Muhammed retook the seat in 2020, narrowly winning in a 3-way contest with 40% of the vote. She is currently the Coordinator of Pupil Personnel for Southampton County Schools, , and previously served as a Curriculum Specialist/Assistant Principal and Principal for Franklin City Public Schools. Harris-Muhammed has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Norfolk State University, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Education from Walden University.
In her first election, 9th District School Board representative Shavonda Dixon will get the chance to serve a full term after being appointed as iterim representative in February. Dixon is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, mentor, psalmist, and preacher who serves as an Elder and member of United Nations Church International. She is the founder of Jesus Groupie Clothing. Dixon has a bachelor’s degree in political science and homeland security from VCU and a graduate degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University.
