The new Southside Community Center is a jewel of Richmond
A crowd of nearly 250 people turned out today for the ribbon cutting at the new Southside Community Center on Old Warwick Road.
More than a decade in the making and one of the notable accomplishments of the Stoney administration, the $22.5 million ARPA funded space includes an auxiliary gymnasium, indoor walking track, a boxing studio, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, multi-purpose/meeting spaces, a culinary teaching kitchen, classrooms, dance and music studios, and outdoor garden space.
The Southside Community Center is the first of four new community centers in the works for Richmond. The new T.B.Smith Community Center on Ruffin Road should be coming online in early- to mid-summer, with the Lucks Field Community Center in the East End and Calhoun Community Center in Northside to follow.
