ICE not at River City Middle School on Tuesday

A post on a local RPS oriented Facebook group yesterday stated that “A RPS parent was taken by ICE when they dropped their kid off at school.” We followed up with questions to a number of local government contacts have brought a little bit of clarity.

One reputable source confirmed the story, without going into details. This still leaves a lot of space for error and confusion. If you know someone close to the story please point them our way.

The key fact that we have been able to confirm is that nothing happened on RPS property. Alyssa Schwenk, Engagement Office Director of Communications (Richmond Public Schools) released this statement this afternoon:

Despite rumors to the contrary, we would like to confirm that absolutely no law-enforcement action or detention took place on or near a Richmond Public Schools campus yesterday. We want to underscore that our schools remain a safe place for our students, filled with people who care deeply about their well-being. Our policies and statements from earlier this year still stand, and we will continue to enforce them diligently. As we always say, ‘We love you here, and we always will.”
