Did you know that Richmond is getting a FREE Outdoor Gear Library? Do you like yoga? Native plants? Want to help perk up the park?

Check out what’s coming to Fonticello Park over the next few months:

LITTER AND PARK CLEAN UP 3/30

With Spring comes more park use, and unfortunately, more park litter. This event is being led by neighbor and member, Ja’Nai Frederick. Volunteers will be helping to pick up trash and clean up Fonticello park. Be prepared to bend down to pick up trash, haul trash bags, and be on your feet walking around the park. Trash bags and trash grabbers will be provided. Bring comfortable shoes and a water bottle.

NATIVE MEADOW WORK DAY 4/7

Weeds, weeds, everywhere. What’s a community to do? Pick them of course! During the establishment phase of any native meadow, there is a certain level of weed mitigation that is necessary until the native plants are strong enough to repel them. Along with weeding, volunteers will have the option to help install the rope and post fence, assemble benches, and set benches in concrete. All tools will be provided! Wear comfortable clothes and bring water bottle and bagged lunch

DONATION BASED COMMUNITY YOGA – every Friday starting 4/5

Join us under the sky for a stretch of serenity and community connection. Every Friday Isa from Southside Yoga guides us through a yoga journey in the heart of Fonticello Park (near playground). This donation-based practice welcomes EVERYONE—no matter your yoga prowess or financial situation. Just bring your mat or a comfy blanket to get started. If you’re in need, Isa has 5 extra mats to share. Dive deeper into our practice and connect with Isa on Instagram @southsideyogarva for more details or any questions. Let’s breathe, stretch, and grow together in our beautiful shared space. Fridays from 5:30 – 6:30 in the park. Meet in the open green space between the tennis courts and the playground.

LEARN TO PITCH A TENT 101 4/28

The Richmond Outdoor Gear Library (ROGL) is a newly established 501(c)(3) non profit with a mission to close the accessibility gap to outdoor recreation and education through *free high-quality gear rental services, community programs, and educational workshops. ROGL’s first-ever community workshop is coming up on April 28 at Fonticello Park from 12-2pm. If you’re new to camping and wanting to learn the basics of camp set up in a comfortable, welcoming, and supportive environment, then this event is for YOU! Follow @rvaoutdoorgearlibrary on Instagram for more information.

At this workshop you will:

  • Learn through comprehensive instruction, hands-on practice, and friendly challenges how to set up a variety of different tent styles
  • Learn more about ROGL and its services to the Richmond community as a FREE and public outdoor recreation and education resource
  • Get connected with other outdoor recreationists, both new and seasoned!

PARK HISTORY TOUR 5/19

We don’t have a lot of information to share about this event just yet, but we promise to update you as soon as we can. In partnership with a local historical organization, we are excited to put a spotlight on the diverse history of Fonticello Park!
We are working with neighbors and members to plan this event.

NATIVE PLANT SWAP 5/25

This event is being hosted by neighbor, Vanessa Pastore-Smith. For questions about the event and to RSVP, join the Facebook Event.
