Wayside Springs Education & Work Day this Thursday

May 18, 2024 | by

The Invasive Plant Task Force is hosting a Wayside Springs Education & Work Day on May 23rd:

Join the James River Park System and your Wayside Springs neighbors to learn about native and invasive plants, take an educational guided walk, and get your hands dirty removing invasive plants to preserve the tree canopy and begin restoring this special habitat.

Please meet at the entrance of Wayside Springs at 3pm for a short educational walk to learn about plant identification basics before we begin removing invasive shrubs and vines.

Neighbors are welcome to stop by at any time to learn about invasive plants. If you are planning to participate in plant removal, we ask that you try to stay for at least one consecutive hour.

Volunteers who need service hours from this event are asked to arrive by 3pm and plan to stay for the duration of the event.

Participants must bring their own water and should wear long pants and long sleeves to protect themselves from poison ivy, thorns, and insects. Hand tools and gloves will be provided for those who need them.

Any youth under 18, even if accompanied by an adult, must email a completed Youth Waiver Form to gera@jamesriverpark.org before the event to be able to participate.

Please contact Gera Williams with any questions: gera@jamesriverpark.org
