It’s officially Richmond High School for the Arts!

In a momentous event on Friday, Richmond High School for the Arts, formerly known as George Wythe High School, held an official renaming ceremony, drawing in an enthusiastic crowd of students, parents, city leaders and community advocates.

The decision to rename the school comes as part of a broader initiative to remove names associated with individuals who represented racist ideologies, including slave owners and Confederate Army members. George Wythe, the school’s former namesake, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a slave owner.
