Passenger dead after Saturday’s single vehicle crash on Harwood

The 16-year-old passenger injured in a vehicle crash on Harwood Street late Saturday has died.

Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Harwood Street

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on Harwood Street.

On Friday at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers were called to the 2500 block of Harwood Street for the report of an SUV that had lost control and collided into a utility pole and struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Richmond Highway.

The adult male pedestrian and the four individuals in the SUV, three adults and one juvenile, were injured and transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered to be life threatening. The juvenile passenger, a 16-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital the following morning.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene to investigate and have determined speed was a factor in this crash. This fatal crash remains under investigation.
