Jahnke Road Improvement Project pushed back to at least 2027
Last January, the city’s Capital Projects (CIP) & Transportation Projects page listed the Jahnke Road Improvement Project as set for Summer 2026, with the project being put out to bid in “Late Spring 2024”. A year later, that same page still says the same thing.
The project DID actually eventually go out for bid in late summer of 2024, but as both bids exceeded the project budget it was not awarded to either of the 2 contractors who put in bids. The project is set to be re-advertised this spring.
In the works since 2008 and once set to be completed by Winter 2018, this pushes the long-delayed project to 2027.
The estimated $21,561,000 Jahnke Road Improvement Project includes the addition of an 8-foot shared use path, a 5-foot sidewalk, and a 16-foot median. The existing drainage will be upgraded from roadside ditches to a closed system with storm sewer pipe and curb and gutter. The project will improve traffic safety and flow with left turn lanes at Newell Road, Spruance Road, Forestview School Drive (entrance to Elizabeth Redd Elementary School), Irby Drive and Leicester Road. There will also be safety improvements at the CSX rail crossing.
