Jonathan Young resigns from the School Board

WTVR is reporting that 4th District representative Jonathan Young has resigned from the School Board:

Richmond School Board member Jonathan Young announced Friday that he would step down from the board.

The announcement comes following an investigation into Young’s behavior toward a 15-year-old girl while on a school field trip in December 2023.

With more than seven months until whomever is elected this fall takes office, it seems like the School Board will have to appoint an interim 4th District representative. Keep an ear out for that.

Young was elected to the position in 2016 in a 4-way contest. He was re-elected in 2020 after a strong challenge by Deanna Fierro. Young was the only announced candidate for the 4th District School Board seat in this year’s upcoming election, though there are rumors of at least candidate soon to announce.

With Shavonda Dixon new to the School Board for the 9th District in February and the incumbents in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th District not running for re-election, the Richmond City School Board will have a good shake-up come January.

  1. Gobsmacked. Let’s hope we find someone for our district who is a keen on transparency as he was. And I suspect, those comments he referred to, made by other board members, was the actually due to this insisted transparency and not his absolved actions.
