New local news site The Richmonder to launch in September

From Michael Phillips:

Hello friends!

I’m excited to announce the upcoming launch of The Richmonder, a nonprofit news site that will focus on providing quality journalism about pressing issues in our community.

I’d love it if you would sign up for our email newsletter, which will launch on Sept. 9. I’d love it even more if you would consider a contribution to help get us up and running. We have an awesome staff lined up which we’ll announce in the coming days and weeks.

We believe that reporting means being in the room where the decisions are made, and making the calls that get to the bottom of a story. I’m excited to get rolling!

  1. It would be nice if this site could provide a clear-cut description about the dates and candidates running during ANY and ALL local elections. I have problems getting access to a ballot before an election. And yes, there are links to “Sample Ballots,” but most times I’ve found that they aren’t posted.

I then get referred to sites that are a cluster of non related info that only become easy to access and understand after an election has taken place. The confusion is ridiculous.

I just got some political mail that I think is supposed to increase support and loyalty. However, the flyer doesn’t show any dates on when to vote. Sadly, I’m starting to believe that this is a tactic used to prevent people from voting. Do candidates worry about earning a vote or care more about preventing people from voting?
