NOON Cottrell will bring 400 unit affordable apartment development to heart of food desert

Mike Plantania at Richmond BizSense has the details on a new 400 unit affordable apartment complex that will front Cottrell Road and Walmsley Boulevard:

The phased project would rise on about 11 acres of undeveloped land near the intersection of Walmsley and Broad Rock boulevards. Lynx principal John Gregory said the units will be available to those earning between 50 and 70 percent of the area median income.

It seems worth noting that this location is almost 2 miles from the nearest grocery store. With the thousands of new housing units coming online in the next few years will this be enough to get South Richmond a new grocery store?

  1. As long as they are affordable! And at least they should factor in that they’re is no close grocery store

  2. Lord knows I hope so with people that has limited transportation not unless they have a bus that comes out in that area
