Rizzi gets second term as 5th District School Board representative

5th District School Board representative Stephanie Rizzi looks to have won reelection, with today’s reporting putting her at 51% of the vote.

Rizzi first won the seat in 2020, taking 54% in a 4-way race. Rizzi served as Board Chair from 2021 until July 2024. She has a B.S. in Mass Communications
(News Editorial) and an M.A. in English Composition Studies along with a 30 credit hour certificate in English Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been an educator for more than 30 years and had taught at the elementary school, middle school, high school, and university level.

Rizzi will be a part of a new look School Board, with 5 new members and 1 starting their first full term. Matthew R. Percival (1st), Katie B. Ricard (2nd), Ali M. Faruk (3rd), Wesley E. Hedgepeth (4th), and E.J. “Emmett Jay” Jafari (8th) will be fresh faces, and Shavonda R. Dixon (9th) is starting her first full term after being appointed as interim representative in February. Stephanie M. Rizzi (5th), Shonda M. Harris-Muhammed (6th) and Cheryl L. Burke (7th) return.
