Five new School Board members to be sworn in on Monday

Water permitting, the Richmond City School Board will be sworn in Monday, January 6, at 10AM in the School Board Chambers on the 17th floor of City Hall. The swearing-in will be followed in the evening by the regular School Board meeting that will include the election of the new chair and vice-chair.

The 2025 School Board includes five new members: Wesley Hedgepeth, (4th), E.J. “Emmett Jay” Jafari (8th), Matthew Percival (1st), Katie Ricard (2nd), and Ali Faruk (3rd). Stephanie Rizzi (5th), Dr. Shonda Harris-Muhammed (5th), Shavonda Fernandez (9th), and Cheryl Burke (7th) are the four returning members. Fernandez is beginning her first full term after being appointed to the last February

In the event of inclement weather Monday morning, the ceremony will be held Tuesday, January 7, at 5PM.
